A land-based operator in Ontario, who will remain nameless, and the online gaming innovation group GiG have inked a head of terms deal.

 Thanks to the agreement, GiG will be able to launch its platform, sportsbook, and OMNI solution in the province of Ontario.

 As of July, GiG had its service authorisation in the province.

 Two additional operators have already been powered to launch in the Ontario market by the provider.  In August, Kings Media Ltd. joined the province as a result of an agreement with GiG.

 In the first half of 2023, the agreement is scheduled to go active.

 Ben Clemes, general manager of GiG North America, expressed his excitement at finalising arrangements with a land-based partner that has a long history of success in the Ontario market.

 "Showcasing the power of our proven OMNI solution alongside our full product catalogue including casino, sports, and our frontend solution is made possible by their land-based presence," added GiG.

 Legal dispute in Ontario
 The Mohawk Council of Kahnawàke has filed a legal challenge that might cast doubt on the future of igaming in the province with the largest population in Canada.

 The council has challenged iGaming Ontario and the provincial attorney general in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, claiming that their gaming regulations violate the province's constitution.

 It is necessary for a provincial government to be involved for commercial betting and gaming to be permitted in Canada.  Ontario introduced a licencing framework this year, with over 30 licensed companies, in contrast to the monopoly that the government controls in most other provinces that provide online gambling.

 The Mohawk Council of Kahnawàke stated categorically that the province has nothing to do with running or overseeing online gaming, even though the terms are not defined.
